UN Agency Reports Grim Toll of Israeli Offensive on Gaza Strip: More than 100,000

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has disclosed staggering casualties in the Gaza Strip since the onset of Israel's brutal war in early October, with nearly 100,000 Palestinians killed, wounded, or missing.

UNRWA's Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini highlighted the dire situation, stating that within four months of conflict, approximately 100,000 individuals in Gaza have suffered casualties.

The agency reported that over 80 percent of Gaza's 2.3 million population has been displaced, many of them multiple times.

Amid ongoing hostilities, UNRWA emphasized the urgent need for a shift toward a sustainable solution, stressing that mere ceasefires are insufficient to address the humanitarian crisis affecting Gaza's residents.

The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor echoed these concerns, indicating that about 90 percent of Gaza's population has been displaced.

In a distressing development, UNRWA disclosed that one of its food convoys came under Israeli artillery fire while delivering aid to starving Palestinians in northern Gaza. The agency underscored the imperative of ensuring safe and sustainable humanitarian access across the region to fulfill its mission effectively.

Meanwhile, Palestinians in Gaza endure continual suffering as Israel's military campaign persists, resulting in widespread death, destruction, and displacement.

UNRWA shared footage illustrating the catastrophic impact of the conflict, with one of its health centers reduced to rubble, reflecting an unprecedented level of destruction and forced displacement.

Tragically, over 110 Palestinians lost their lives in Israeli shelling within a single day. The cities of Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, where the majority of displaced civilians seek refuge, have borne the brunt of the attacks.

Compounding the crisis, hospitals like Amal and Nasser in Khan Younis remain under siege, with Israeli drones targeting residents.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel's military operations have claimed the lives of nearly 27,500 Palestinians in Gaza, including a significant number of women and children, exacerbating the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the region.
